Shaka Wellness

Aloha and Welcome to Shaka Wellness!

Shaka Wellness is a wellness program that I developed and made available here at La Habra Hills Optometry, Inc.

The reason why I named the program Shaka Wellness comes from my background of living in Hawaii and my love for Hawaiian culture.  Shaka is a Hawaiian hand gesture that is often used as a greeting for “Hello” or “Goodbye.”  It also is a symbol for “everything is all good” and “relaxed”.  I thought this was a great symbol to convey my approach to wellness, meaning we want to say “goodbye” to old not-so healthy habits and “hello” to a new and improved way of being.  We want to do this in a relaxed way so that “everything is all good” as we travel through our journey to wellness.

I am a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.  What does that mean?  I help you make nutritional and lifestyle changes intuitively to bring balance back to your mind and body during your journey from dis-ease to wellness. Integrative Nutrition is an approach to health and wellness that addresses food from two standpoints, primary food and secondary food.

Primary Food consists of the things in our life such as relationships, career, spirituality, and physical activity that nourish us.  Secondary Food is the food we consume such as fruits, vegetables, protein and water.  When our Primary Foods and Secondary Foods are in balance then we feel nourished and healthy and are no longer in a state of dis-ease.

My role is to educate and support you in these areas to achieve your health goals through lifestyle and behavior adjustments.  Some of the benefits you may gain along the way may include weight loss, less stress, better quality sleep, more energy, preventing the onset of chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol or if you have been diagnosed with any of these conditions, together we may be able to decrease or eliminate your need for those medications, with the collaboration of your prescribing physician.

The way we achieve this is with our 6 Month Program.  It consists of 50-minute sessions twice a month for 6 months.  During the sessions we will discuss your Goals, Action Steps and your Progress along the way.  You may wonder “why 6 months?” The reason is because the 6 Month time frame has been shown to prove sustainability of new habits.
